All set for Blairgowrie and Rattray community showcase event
A popular showcase event highlighting the wide variety of activities that take place in Blairgowrie and Rattray is being held in Perthshire’s largest town this weekend.
The annual Town Event, which this year takes place on Saturday, June 27, from 1pm to 3pm in Blairgowrie Town Hall, is organised by Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust (BRDT) and offers local community groups and associations, event organisers and others an opportunity to highlight what they do.
Nearly 40 community organisations have signed up to attend the 2026 event, which is open to members of the public.
Lesley McDonald is operations officer with BRDT. She said: “This is the fourth year that we have held the Town Event and it is great to see that it as popular as ever with community groups and organisations in Blairgowrie and Rattray.
“We are very fortunate to have a diverse range of volunteer-run groups that do so much good work in our community and we’re delighted that so many of them have signed up to take part in the Town Event again this year.
“There will be information and updates on the work that volunteers do locally, and an opportunity to get involved in some of the wonderful projects and activities on offer.
“If you have ever asked what’s going on in Blairgowrie and Rattray then this is the event for you – you’ll be amazed at all the work being done by local groups and how easy it is to get involved in your community life!”
Amongst the groups taking part are Blairgowrie and District Hillwalking Club, Blairgowrie Parish Church, Blairgowrie and Rattray Community First Responders, Blairgowrie and District Rotary, Blairgowrie and Rattray Access Network, GirlGuiding Blairgowrie and Rattray District, and the Women’s Walk and Talk Group.
Representatives from a number of the groups have featured in a social media campaign this month which has highlighted why attending the Town Event is so useful to community organisations.
Jennifer Somerville from Blairgowrie and District Rotary said: “This will be the fourth time that we have been at the Town Event, and we have found it’s a very worthwhile experience as it helps us to raise our profile in the community.
“It gives us a chance to talk about what we do both in our local community and internationally, and some of the causes that we support. It also gives us a chance to make connections with other community groups in the town and to encourage people to become members.”
Andrew Swann is from the Blairgowrie and Rattray Community First Responders, a new group which will be at the Town Event for the first time this year.
He said: “We’re really excited to attend the Town Event. For us, as a new group, it’s an opportunity to make the community aware that we’re here – hopefully you will never need us but we are here if you do.
“It’s great that the Town Event brings community groups and organisations together in the way that it does, and gives people who maybe aren’t on social media for example another way to find out what’s going on in their area.”
The 2026 Town Event takes place on Saturday, June 27, from 1pm to 3pm in Blairgowrie Town Hall. It is free to attend, and refreshments provided by the local fundraising branch of Mary’s Meals will be available.
